Puglia's Aglianico expresses itself in a more Mediterranean and accessible register than its counterparts from Campania or Basilicata. In the DOCs of Castel del Monte and the Tavoliere, under intense sun and on shallow clay-limestone soils, the variety produces generous, warm wines with obvious fruit ripeness.
