Barbera d’Asti is the most popular and accessible version of the variety in Piedmont. On the hills of the Astigiano and Monferrato, on clay-limestone soils, it produces wines lighter, more supple and more immediately pleasurable than those of Alba — red fruits, fresh acidity, silky tannins.
