The Irouléguy AOC produces the westernmost Pyrenean wines — a vineyard of steep terraces at 200–400 metres on red sandstone and schist, swept by Atlantic winds from the Basque Country. Cabernet franc, blended with Tannat, yields tonic, characterful mountain wines. The colour is deep, luminous ruby garnet.
