In the southern Rhône, Carignan features in many Côtes du Rhône Villages, Ventoux and Luberon blends. Alongside Grenache and Mourvèdre, it contributes structure, colour and characteristic spice. Old bush vines on rolled pebbles and clay give the most interesting expressions. The colour is dense purple garnet.
