The Côte Chalonnaise — the Burgundian slope between Mercurey and Montagny, south of the Côte de Beaune — produces Chardonnays of fine quality and excellent value. Rully, Montagny and Buxy are the most reputed white appellations. Clay-limestone soils and varied aspects give whites of intermediate stature.
