In Provence, Cinsault is one of the historic constituent varieties of the Côtes de Provence, Coteaux d’Aix and Coteaux Varois AOCs. In generic Provençal reds, it brings lightness and fruit to blends dominated by Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre, softening their tannic structure. The colour is medium ruby garnet.
