In Bierzo — a deep valley on the border of Galicia and Castile-León — Godello produces whites of remarkable complexity, often aged in barrel. The Bierzo’s slate and schist soils and altitude give these whites an alpine minerality, close in style to great white Burgundy. The colour is pale to golden.
