Gouveio — called Verdelho in Portugal and Godello in Galicia — is an important white variety of the Portuguese Douro, used in the blends of dry Douro whites and Porto blanc. On the steep schists of the Douro, it produces whites of good acidic structure and marked mineral character. The colour is pale, clear gold.
