Lagrein — an autochthonous red variety of the Alto Adige (Südtirol), grown primarily in the alluvial plain of the Bozner Leiten around Bolzano, on deep alluvial gravel and heavy clay soils — is the most characteristic red of South Tyrol. Its dark, tannic and almost wild profile makes it a unique variety in Italy.
