Pinot Blanc still in Alsace — a white variety grown widely in Alsace on the clay-limestone, marls, gneisses and granites of the Vosges slopes, often blended with the related Auxerrois — produces elegant, round, fruity and accessible whites, the entry point of Alsace. It cannot in principle be vinified as Grand Cru.
