Does a cherry aroma necessarily mean that it is pinot noir?
Why does my white wine have hints of pineapple? Which grape varieties have pineapple aromas? Where do the yeast notes in my champagne come from?
Many curious tasters may be asking themselves all these questions and certainly want answers. It is on the basis of this observation and with a view to providing as many answers as possible to all tasters that VINONIA was conceived and developed.
VINONIA is the first wine app that allows tasters to approach wine through grape varieties and aromas. Thanks to an interconnection of more than 140 aromas and more than 550 grape varieties, tasting takes on a whole new meaning. The application will help you to understand the particularities of the different grape varieties and to recognise them through their aromatic expression but also technical expression, such as acidity, body, tannin - and consequently to understand wine.
VINONIA is available in 5 languages in iOs format in the AppStore and Android in the Google Play Store.
VINONIA allows you to compare grape varieties with each other using an educational chart. This allows you to compare the levels of tannins and acidity in red wines. For white wines, the chart highlights the differences in body and acidity. We also show you the common and different aromas, to give you a better understanding of the grape variety.
A targeted search helps you identify the grape varieties of the wine you're tasting.
For example, you smell apricot? An initial list of over 20 aromas appears.
Then refine your search by adding a second aroma, such as mandarin: a new list of 7 grape varieties is displayed.
So? Falanghina? Clairette?
Organized by grape variety and appellation, we offer over 140 different aromas such as cherry, licorice, acacia, butter, …
All aromas are categorized by their primary family – such as red fruits, stone fruits, citrus, or floral – as well as by secondary (from winemaking) and tertiary aromas (from aging).
Almost all the elements of the app can be clicked on, allowing you to move from a flavour to a grape variety, then to an appellation, return to another grape variety, discover its preferred climate, move on again to a production region... In short, you get the idea: VINONIA is designed for curious tasters.
All these appellations are presented in summary form by authorised grape varieties, date of creation, authorised ageing methods, terroir, climate and its impact on the wine. You will thus discover legendary names such as Romanée Conti and Petrus, but also lesser-known appellations such as Château Grillet, Santorini and Bellet near Nice.
Mention of authorised yields by appellation. Yields are a real factor when it comes to wine quality.
