Blauer Portugieser is one of the most widespread red varieties in Austria and Germany, despite its misleading name — its origin is not Portuguese but probably Austrian. In the Wagram, Thermenregion and Germany’s Rheinhessen, it produces light, fruity and supple reds vinified for early drinking.
