Teran from Istria — grown in Istria (Croatia), on the red iron-rich terra rossa soils above the limestone with a Mediterranean climate — produces deeply coloured and tannic reds, similar to Slovenian Teran. There is a long dispute between Slovenia and Italy (Istria) over the ‘Teran’ appellation.
