In Catalonia, Cariñena reaches its greatest expression in the Priorat and Montsant, on the famous llicorella — black and red slates with mica flakes. These terroirs drain all moisture to depth, forcing old vines to plunge their roots very deeply. The result is one of Spain’s most concentrated and mineral wines.
